Question
Purpose of the Document
To explain how to express questions in complex logic terms.
Questions which can be answered with true or false
One such question would be: "Does John see Mary?". One may model questions like these using the uncertainty operator (?).
Open-Ended Questions
These are question-answer pairs we may find in the hero diamond.
Example
- Question: What mask does character X put on when he/she goes out into society?
- Answer: A brainless bimbo.
Modelling approach #1
- The question is a term which represents information request.
- The answer is a term as well.
- There is a relation between question and answer.
The Nature of Questions
It looks like questions can be at least two types of things:
- Statements about which it is not known whether they are true, false or otherwise.
- Information requests.
Quote from "Logical Physics"
Alexander Zinoviev writes:
A question represents a linguistic expression consisting of two parts:
- a part of assumed or possible statement;
- a linguistic expression denoting a suggestion (request, order) to complement the first part so that a certain true statement results.
The latter represents the correct answer to the question. Thus, the following rule can be adopted: from a question A follows a question B if and only if from the correct answer to A follows the correct answer to B.
